About Constantine Karatenislis
Constantine is a full-time professional clarinetist and teacher based in Sydney, Australia. Kosta is currently maintaining his full time performing career with the Royal Australian Navy Band in Sydney, as a casual with Orchestra Victoria, and freelancing in professional and semi-professional symphony orchestras and chamber music groups. When Kosta isn’t performing, he has a passion for applying the lessons learned throughout music training into his everyday life, and passing on those same lessons of patience, perseverance and dedication to his students.
Originally from Geelong, Victoria, Constantine undertook his journey on the clarinet in mid-high school, and after many hours of work in the practice room, earned himself several scholarships, giving him the chance to learn from some of Australia’s best clarinet teachers, resulting in him achieving one of the best scores for clarinet performance in VCE, and performing in Top Class. Constantine completed his undergraduate in music (graduating with Honours), specialising in clarinet performance at the Sir Zelman Cowan School of Music, Monash University under Associate Professor and clarinetist of Ensemble Liaison; David Griffiths. During his studies, he performed in several masterclasses with renowned musicians such as Paul Meyer, David Krakauer, Frank Celata and Alan Vivian. Constantine was a finalist in the 2015 Clasax Buffet Crampon Clarinet Competition, and won the competition in 2017. Constantine also won the Prestigious Margaret Sutherland Bursary Competition in 2017, giving him the opportunity to further his music career.
Constantine has performed with ensembles including the Australian Youth Orchestra, Monash University Wind Symphony as Principal Bb and Eb clarinetist, Monash Academy Orchestra under conductors Fabian Russel, Benjamin Northey and Natalia Raspopova, Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra, is a casual performer with Orchestra Victoria, giving him the opportunity to perform for the Australian Ballet, and has been principal clarinetist and section leader of the Royal Australian Navy Band in Melbourne, now a clarinetist in the Sydney detachment of the band. His career has seen Constantine travel to Hawaii as part of the Pacific Basin Music Festival, as well as performing for the Governor General, and Victorian Premier; Daniel Andrews.
